Funny you should mention your dance - very timely - hopefully sometime this
weekend I'll finish making and release a new hitch-hiker. It's mission is to
hike through mystery boxes. We've called it "Happy Dance" after you and
Bluebird :-))

I think you can guess which box we'll release it in...
;;;-) (lots of winks)

No offense to the multitude of boxes in CT, but we still do think
that some of the best mysteries are those out in NJ and PA.
Check 'em out if you can :-)

I have a question; since I've never posted one before today, I never thought
about it before. How do you find (or where do you find) the listing(s) for
mystery boxes?

Each state has a link to the Mystery Boxes for that state. There is also a link
to Mystery Boxes on the main clue page (the one with the US map on it). These
mystery boxes could be ANYWHERE.

I love figuring out mystery boxes. I have a pretty good idea of where several
of them are but I haven't been to the actual locations to verfiy if I am correct
or not. I can just imagine my wife's reaction when I detour our vacation to
find a box only to discover that I was off by 1000 miles. : )

I stand corrected. Each state has its own mystery box link. The one from the
main US map lists ALL of the mystery boxes which includes some that could be
anywhere.

Yes, but ...I know there are mystery boxes in Virginia, yet none are listed in the
mystery section.

Not every letterbox gets listed on this site. Some people list theirs on their own private websites. Other boxes are only circulated by word of mouth or as bonus boxes when you find another box. I have heard of sporting goods stores that maintain a binder with clues in it.

You could also try checking the old site (the link can be found on the landing page of the current site) to see if any are listed there. I would also try searching the Yahoo! group archive to see if there are any clues posted there.

They are listed as mystery boxes under the state of VA though. I've been
trying to work them out. Not successfully yet, as we are transplanted here!

It does list VA as not having mystery boxes. I'm not familiar with
letterboxes in the area, but is it possible that you are thinking of DC
boxes? Both the District and Maryland have some. Although the district's
is listed with the others. It is possible too that there used to be some,
but they were taken off the list by someone (could something have happened
to them?).

Where in VA are you located? I'm near Fredericksburg. I haven't found them,
but I think I have at least solved some of the puzzles for a few boxes in
Virginia. I just hope they are still out. I found the clues to VA mystery boxes at
letterboxing.org - Mystery Letterboxes . You have to page down to the VA
section, since it lists all the letterboxes together (I think) .

Hope this helps~!
Happy Letterboxing!

I don't know how I found it, lol! I just type in Virginia and hit search,
and there they all are. LOL! I hope that helps! Lone Pony

I'm also curious, are any of you from the Hampton Roads area? We would love
to meet other letterboxers! We are new to it (about a month in) and are
totally addicted to it! Lone Pony

We haven't been at it very long either, only about a week. The kids and I are
hoping to come down that way this fall, after the crowds slow down some, and
camp and do some boxing in the Virginia Beach area. Perhaps we could meet and
exchange stamps!

Happy letterboxing!

We would love that, 'cause to tell the truth, we aren't the most successful
letter boxers! LOL! So don't ask us for, you know, help, or anything! LOL!
But seriously, let us know when you come down, and we'd love to exchange
stamps! We're planning to go out letterboxing tonight at Redwing Park, so
wish us luck!

Did you have any success in Redwing Park? That was the first place we
tried and of the 3 that were supposed to be there we found one and the stamp was
missing. There were some disgruntled notes from others looking for the "Metal
Bridge" which apparently no longer exists, in the box but no stamp.
Have you tried First Landing? I am planning to try the Flying Valentine,
tomorrow.

Not a very pretty day today for letterboxing! LOL! We did do Red Wing
yesterday, with not much success. The rain held off just enough for us to
finish. That was the only plus. We could not find little diva, though we did
some serious rock removal and replacement, and imagine our great surprise to
discover that not only was garden gnome 2 gone, but also the entire bridge!!
Redwing was there alas with out the stamp, and the box was soaked, and
rather smelly. I saved the stamped papers and have them laid out to dry, and
plan to replace them shortly in baggies. To bad about the stamp though, as
it was a great location, with good clues. I hope to find the boxes owner and
ask them about replacing the stamp, or if they prefer, we could adopt it,
and attempt the stamp ourselves. We were thinking we were so clever when we
found it too! LOL! We have been working on flying valentine too, but we
don't get past the first hint, before the bickering starts between my 13 &
10 year old! LOL! We did attempt First Landing, but we made the mistake of
taking our elderly dog, and we couldn't even make it to the 2 mile marker on
cape Henry with her. We were doing hot spot. So we will have to attempt it
again at a later date, after tropical storm who ever goes by! LOL! Hope you
have a fantastic day, Lone Pony
